About ERC CISST at Johns Hopkins University
|
The central laboratories of the CISST ERC are located in CSEB at the Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. The labs are shared by students working with several ERC faculty members, including Russ Taylor, Gabor Fichtinger, Peter Kazanzides, Greg Hager, and Allison Okamura. They also include the offices of Dr. Fichtinger, Dr. Kazanzides, and the CISST engineering staff.
The labs are frequently used as engineering/system integration staging areas and equipment frequently migrates back between the Homewood space and experimental space at the JHU Hospital.
In addition to computers, desk space, bench space, etc., the labs include:
- A small NC machine shop for prototyping
- Imaging equipment (x-ray fluoroscopic C-arm, ultrasound, endoscopy)
- Navigational tracking equipment (3 NDI Optotrak systems, NDI Polaris, NDI Aurora, misc. other trackers)
- Surgical robots (3 IBM/JHU LARS systems, 2 RCM steady hand systems, 1 Neuromate, and various other prototype systems) and various other prototype robotic devices & robot controllers
- Microscopes, endoscopes, video cameras, etc.
- Visualization systems, 3D display devices, including high quality HMDs, “image overlay” prototypes, etc.
- A large optical bench for microsurgery and other experiments
There are also laboratory facilities at the JHU Medical Center, including medical imaging and a facility for animal surgery, and at the Urobotics Laboratory at the Bayview Medical Center. The Center also has access to valuable imaging and robotic equipment, including Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci surgical robot at the Minimally Invasive Surgical Training Center at JHU, and Northern Digital’s Optotrak, Polaris and Aurora tracking technologies.
